What's on in the Scottish Borders in September
The kids are back to school, the summer is at almost an end, and the Edinburgh Fringe season is done for another year.
Over the past month we have enjoyed some delicious specials from our kitchen including Chicken, Gammon and Celery Pie, Butternut Squash & Chilli Soup and Beef Bourguignon. As we look ahead to winter with the return of curry night and hopefully to bring back some regular pub events such as acoustic sessions, pub quiz’s (still looking for a quiz master) and many more. Whats On near us in September: Earlston Community Day Sunday 8th September - Earlston Rugby Club 12pm - 4pm It’s your town day your chance to get involved in different groups within the community and discuss views and the future developments to sustain a better, improved village. The day will include raffles, refreshments, Inflatables, Live Music, Tennis, Face Painting and much much more. The Poacher Run Saturday 7th September - Borders Event Centre, Springwood Park, Kelso The Border Reiver Trail Series brings to the Borders 5 and 10k runs. Entries available at www.sientries.co.uk Borders Memory Walk Saturday 7th September - Harestanes Visitor Centre, Ancrum 1pm 1.5km and 6.5km Walks offer and donations will help Alzeimers Scotland to ensure that no one faces dementia alone. Scottish Opera Monday 9th September - Earlston High School 7pm Amadeus and The Bard celebrates the lives of two much loved men, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Robert Burns. Tickets available from the School Office or www.scottishopera.org.uk/amadeus Bill McLaren: The Voice of Rugby 10-13th September - The Heart of Hawick 2:30pm and 7:30pm Showings A new play by Rob Robertson in collaboration with Firebrand Theatre Company. It explores the man behind the voice and his personal dedication to rugby as both the sport he loved and as a way to enable young people to achieve their potential in life. Tickets available from the Heart of Hawick or via www.bit.ly/BoxOfficeHOH Silent Movie - Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde Saturday 14th September New Place Centre, Greenlaw. 7:30pm - 9:30pm Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel brought to life in this 1920’s classic film, starring John Barrymore. Selkirk Vintage Rally Sunday 15th September - Sunderland Hall Something for everyone as gates open at 11am to a full range of transport, veteran cars, military vehicles, steam powered engines, commercial units and children’s entertainment. Beach Clean - Coldingham Bay Monday 23rd September 10:30am - 12:30pm As climate change makes a greater impact as each week passes by and as part of The Great British Beach Clean, volunteers will meet outside the Coldingham Beach Cafe.
