National Walking Month - Explore the Scottish Borders

May is National Walking Month, so we thought we'd take the opportunity to share some information about our local paths and walking groups.

On behalf of everyone in the area, we at The Red Lion would like to thank the Paths Groups for all their hard work throughout the year.

The Earlston Paths Group was formed in 2005 with a broad aim to develop and maintain a sustainable and accessible path network around the Earlston and Redpath areas. They also maintain the paths they've created.

In 2011, Earlston Paths Group launched 'Country Walks around Earlston and Redpath', a 48-page booklet featuring 9 walks plus 30 variations, descriptions, maps and photographs. The booklet costs £3.00 and is available from the bar at The Red Lion.

Melrose Paths Group and Walking Support have developed a website which features:

The group offers a wide range of walks on alternate Saturdays throughout the year and, for the coming 2018 Summer season, they will be adding extra monthly Sunday walks.

A warm welcome is guaranteed for new walkers and visiting members of other Ramblers' groups. Walks range from leisurely low-level walks to strenuous hill walks, new walkers are advised to enquire of the advertised walk leader what clothing/equipment/supplies are appropriate to their specific walk.
